FACEPOCALYPSE

The final Coopers Sunday Green was yesterday so I went down to do a live painting, using oils this time. I spent the morning pencilling this up, and at about 9pm this was the result (although not the best of photos):

I still need to polish it up  a lot before it’s ready to exhibit (add the clothes, jewellery, hair etc), but it should be on show at the Mythology Exhibition.

That and your firey red hair.

A scantily clad one at that. Not the most functional of outfits, but well aerated!

Anyway, I wanted to run with the backlighting look of last night’s sketch. It seems like a good initiative to do a study and then apply it to a completely fabricated scene. I know the lighting’s flawed in parts but the image has a sort of graphic novel feel to it.

Done and done. The Officeworks A3 printouts were actually better than I expected.

You can’t make out the textures at this res, but on the A3 printout I have for tomorrow you can see little feathery bits on closer inspection.

Thought I’d do a digital painting in colour for the Guerilla Laneway action since Officeworks does pretty cheap large format printing.

I started this in greyscale and it’s turning out surprisingly well… Even the skintones, which are typically a problem area, aren’t turning out too badly.

Still, I’ll keep refining it tomorrow. And by tomorrow I mean today, after I’ve slept. I’m gonna try adding some feathery texture and needa refine her belly, hand and probably adjust the lips (darkening a little).

Whipped out the watercolours for this eve’s life drawing session over at the King St Art Centre. This is actually bigger on screen than in my sketchbook, but the whole figure is A3.

I had an idea for a sketch, and now it’s approaching 3am.
