Hi, robot
Another exhibition is on the horizon! A mythology themed group exhibition with a couple of locals which promises to be awesometastic.
I may or may not encorporate robots into my arts so I thought I’d do a lighting study of typically robotic materials… So I googled robots, and ended up doing a study of I, Robot. It’s not completely identical to the robots in the movies though. I gave it a hat and some markings for good measure.

Torchlight
My Steam friends have probably noticed I recently purchased Torchlight…
For $5 I thought I would’ve finished it by now but it just keeps going and going. I originally wanted to complete it just so I could do a blog post saying I’d “finished WoW, but not really”.
It does seem really well made from a player’s point of view though. It’s Diablo with all the niggly, annoying things fixed, and a handful of extra features for good measure. It gets old kinda quickly, but I’ve kept playing thinking I must be just about to finish it for the past 10 odd hours of gameplay. Now I’m not so sure.
Anyway, the art is really nice and I’m taking mental notes. I love their multi-tiered environments and their characters and monsters translate really well at the smallish scale.
Their monsters are all simple, blocky shapes, with massive hands and feet, and tiny limbs. Very stylised, but they looks great in 3D and are easily identified.
I thought I’d do a robot of my own. It’s still pretty realistically proportioned – I did it before looking at the Torchlight concept art, but I’ll take another stab at Torchlight-influenced proportions tomorrow and get closer to the mark.

Mecha
A few things I’m lovin:
- Early Xmas festivities.
- Bertie Blackman’s latest album.
Thought I’d do a quick sketch before bed. Possibly against my better judgement as I should get up for sportstuffs in ~5hrs.
If anyone feels like getting their sketch on tonight (Sunday), Dr Sketchy’s burlesque life drawing is on at BamBOO, 7pm-9:30pm.

A Japanese sushi eating robot wolf?
I’ve had a somewhat productive day.
Facepocalypse is Facebook’d for fan addings and more exposure (+1 that action to receive great appreciation! Free of charge!), Space Crash has been given the art clear for submission and my website’s coming along. In light of all this I thought the next logical step was doing a sketch!
Deep in discussion about design with Bec I thought I’d turn to her for a topic. The excerpt from our conversation is below. I thought I’d go with a minimal approach on white.

People like robots, right?
Last night’s sketch. Well, technically it was done today, at about 2:30am. So much for my plight to sleep reasonable hours. It was a Saturday though, and I learnt something from this one! One of those ‘happy accidents’. I’ve finally found a use for the ‘dissolve’ brush mode – see the grainy dust at the bottom? Yep. Cloudy brush + dissolve.
