Laneway > BDO

True.

I always tell myself the Big Day Out will be good and am disappointed by an abundance of festival jerks, but Laneway actually was good! Great, even. Read the rest of this entry →

Goodnight Tiger

Spent the afternoon tidying up the typography I’d proposed originally for Goodnight Tiger, as this was the girls’ favourite option. The type needed to be vectorised and have all the curves cleaned up.

Pez and Jill have taken very warmly to it. Great success!

Tiger type 2

I wasn’t completely satisfied with the last logo I designed for the Goodnight Tiger girls so I thought I’d try another approach. This one’s more elegant. The girls dress well for gigs and present themselves reasonably* professionally – I feel it’s also a bit more mysterious, which suits a lot of the songs.

Their music is very pretty, and while they’re fun and jokey I wanted to explore this avenue.

I’m still going to play around with the tail of the capital G, but it’s almost finished.

The Preytells (+ Clothespeg exhibition)

I love The Preytells. They kicked off their national tour and album launch last night at the Rosemount and played a great set to an enthused crowd.

They were a definite standout when I first saw them play back in 06, and anyone reading this over east: go see them! They’reĀ  great live and are playing throughout the next few weeks before returning to Perth for another show at the Rosie on 9th October…

Clothespegart

Speaking of October 9… I’ve got some art in Clothespeg Volume 3 opening that night at Slaughterblouse, 451 Beaufort St, 7-10pm. Slaughterblouse is in close proximity to the Rosemount, so come and check out both events!

It’s nice to have a local

Sheesh, I had a blogless phase of almost a week. And what a week! I should try and recall what I did. Probably not a whole lot.

I did manage to catch a few Goodnight Tiger gigs though.

Triple J Hottest 100

I’ve been streaming the Hottest 100 this afternoon and it just finished. Goodtimes. I thought it was a pretty reasonable list, definitely made good listening, and 3 of the less obscure songs I voted for got in.

The whole thing is gonna be broadcast on a Rage special August 8th, and this evening I believe they’re playing live tracks from the artists featured in the countdown.

A fruity adventure through a familiar world

I just saw Apricot Rail play at the Velvet Lounge. Shizzam, they were awesome!

I’ve never seen them before and had no idea what to expect. I always have trouble describing musical genres but it was an immersive and relaxing, mostly instrumental experience. Just go have a listen on their myspace. Read the rest of this entry →

NIN remix library

I presume everyone in Australia has a friend named Baz, and my friend named Baz put me onto this derivative of the NIN website recently. If you’re a NIN fan I suggest you check it out.

You can cruise through a fairly sizable library of remixes by both Reznor and users. If you’re into music generation yourself you can even download the multi-track files for the tunes on Year Zero as well as a few otherĀ  songs and go crazynutswild.

There are some pretty epic remixes, but there are a lot of samey ones, too. An example of one that caught my attention is this remix of In This Twilight by Stephan Carroll. Brilliant.

You can construct your own playlist as well which is convenient if you’re a hardcore NIN hearter.

Enjoy!
