In other news, I got back from Melbourne on Monday.

Excuse the laziness re: my sketchblog. I’ve been stuck in holiday mode. I have been working on a commissioned family portrait though, but can’t really post it til completed.

I was pretty impressed with Melbourne compared to Perth. As a city it’s pretty functional.

Pros:

• Good public transport
• Easy to navigate
• Cheap food, of higher quantity and quality
• Restaurant/cafe service is far beyond Perth’s
• More alternative/indie culture
• Awesome bands actually play shows there!
• The government supports art and design in a forward-thinking manner!
• Better nightlife
• People migrate there from all over the place, so the population is more mixed.

Cons:

• The weather
• Lots of hoons/prominent car culture
• The city is pretty grey. Literally. There are dark grey sidewalks and buildings all over the place. Way to be mopey.
• The weather
• Seemingly not as sporty as Perth. Indie/alt crew aren’t the most active of people.
• The weather.

I’m trying to line up a project for Melbourne this year. Hopefully halfway through the year. Time to up the ante.

The first venture is Melbourne for 5 days or thereabouts, leaving on Sunday. If that all goes well we’ll be heading to Brisbane a week later to visit some of Dad’s schoolmates, and his brother’s family. As well as Dreamworld, ofcourse, which will involve much rollercoastering. My sisters will be partaking in the Brisbane vacation, but have exams and work obstructing their participation in the Melbourne segment.

After all this, who knows? Maybe more stuff in July?

Anyway, the basic gist is my presence in Perth may be limited in the coming month(s).
