Mythology exhibition retrospective

The Mythology exhibition is now over so here comes my retrospective, and a few pics.

Just after it opened on Saturday people were fairly quick to fill the gallery:

Mythology hanging + Sixthousand

Setup snap!

gallerysetup

Half a day on and work is on the walls! We’re pretty much ready to roll.

Unfortunately I overestimated the amount of space we have. Or underestimated the amount of work… There’s just enough room to get everyone’s main pieces in without being too crammed. However, the digital painting in my previous post didn’t make the cut – I’ve only put in oil paintings. You’ll just have to oggle it here on my blog.

Big thanks to everyone that’s been pimping the exhibition!! Really nice to see it getting so much publicity, especially since I didn’t even ask people to post about it! Big loves.

Also, the exhibition made it onto SixThousand amongst other websites.

Lunar Solar Polar

I made this intending to make it a diptych for the exhibition, but I’m not sure if I’ll actually display it as 2 pieces.

This pretty much marks the completion of my works, I just need to varnish the last few paintings! I’m hoping they’re dry by now as we’re hanging tomorrow.

A few oil painting learnings thus far: Read the rest of this entry →

Mythology opening on Saturday!

To coincide with my Mythology exhibition reminder I’ll post a revamped Solar Harvester. One that’s a lot less sissy than the first sketch.

I’ll also be at the gallery on Sunday (12-5pm).

Psychopomp

I’m pretty much finished with this painting. I may glaze/varnish it, but it’s pretty much ready to roll for the Mythology exhibition. The basic concept for this one, as I may have explained before, is my interpretation of the Psychopomp archetype. The Psychopomp is a deity who escorts newly-deceased souls to the afterlife.

Live painting @ Coopers finale

The final Coopers Sunday Green was yesterday so I went down to do a live painting, using oils this time. I spent the morning pencilling this up, and at about 9pm this was the result (although not the best of photos):

I still need to polish it up  a lot before it’s ready to exhibit (add the clothes, jewellery, hair etc), but it should be on show at the Mythology Exhibition.

Now onto a vague gig review… Read the rest of this entry →

Mythology Exhibition

MythologyFlyer-Web

As mentioned previously I’m curating another exhibition with some great emerging Perth talent. It’ll definitely be worth checking out, plus it’ll be the last exhibition I curate here before jetsetting to the US in June.

It’s less than a month away now (just). I’ll post more information with a big dedicated post including bios, links and whatnot in coming weeks.

The image featured on the flyer is one of David Charles Collins‘ photographs for the exhibition. His work is pretty awesome.

Updates updates

So much has been happening lately! Exciting times.

First, some eyecandy in the form of a Phoenix update. This painting’s still not finished, but it’s almost there.

I totally overdid the flames, then had to work back into it.

I’ve also started freelancing for Different Methods on a Unity game project. I don’t think I can say any more, but it’s a really lighthearted project and a lot of fun thus far. It’s a tiny team at the moment and I’m acting as their stand-in ~environment visionary~, a sort of Creative Director if you will.

Plus I’ve been accepted into The Art Department, which I will elaborate on in the near future!

Live painting @ Coopers Sunday Green

Volunteered to do a live painting at Coopers Sunday Green today. Was pretty fun, and motivation to solidly paint for a few hours. This piece went from concept to ‘completion’ (although I need to fix it up in parts – especially the hands) in about 4 or 5 hours, including a digital mockup.
