Zombieland – see it

I’m over in Melbourne at the moment, and I scored a new plane on the flight over (Qantas) with ample entertainment options! Despite having access to Inglorious Basterds and Where The Wild Things Are, both of which I’ve been meaning to see, I was strangely drawn to Zombieland.

Turns out I got more than I bargained for as I was struggling not to audibly laugh for most of the movie. The dialogue and situations were pretty hilarious at times, and I was consistently smiling throughout. Plus it has Bill Murray in an amusing role as himself. Read the rest of this entry →

Typography/layout design + Ponyo

Graphic design in a nutshell. If you work with typography and haven’t already had this stuff drilled into you by tutors/designer coworkers you’ll most likely find this article highly informative!

In completely unrelated news, I just saw Ponyo. It was overwhelmingly cute – in a pleasant way. I approve.

Just saw District 9

Aside from the ultra-shaky camerawork I quite enjoyed it, and am totally envious of those who got to design all the sweet guns and vehicles! It would’ve been really fun to concept. I thought their mech was pretty sweet and couldn’t wait to get home and sketch a mech of my own, loosely inspired by the one in the movie.

Although the arms are barely detailed, and by the time I got near the feet I completely copped out and covered them in dust. lawl

And a little work-in-progress image. People generally draw with a lean in one direction, which is why I had to straighten it up near the end. If you’re working digitally and want to check your perspective etc just flip the canvas horizontally and you’ll notice things like that.

You want somethin’, go get it. Period.

I just watched The Pursuit of Happyness, and didn’t realise it was a biographical movie until the end. I probably would’ve appreciated it more had I known. You know, empathised more with the character’s plight and whatnot. There’s something about having a big name actor in the starring role that lightened his character’s struggle. As if he’d soon discover his malfunctioning X-ray box had the inherent ability to summon Martin Lawrence and they’d go on a face-grinding adventure leading to money and babes in bountiful quantities.  Read the rest of this entry →

The man in the box (+ philosopho’clock)

I just watched Yes Man. It was enjoyable, but I’m not sure if my opinions are skewed because I wanted to laugh tonight. Either way, laughing is what I did. It had a few lols.

It’s one of those self-help and ‘be crazynuts spontaneous’ type movies. It was totally over the top, but entertaining enough for a night in. Read the rest of this entry →
