Apple Cider Tea Party THIS FRIDAY (25th)!

My first solo art exhibition!

Just over 2 weeks ago I was offered a cancellation slot at HQ’s gallery for this Friday (25th). After brief paralysis from the daunting prospect of doing all my marketing/promo and finishing the exhibition* in the space of 3 weeks, I snapped to, and the only thing holding me back was myself. So here I am, it’s the week of my opening and everything’s falling into place.

+1 flyer posting.

Come along and see what I’ve been working on for the past few months!
If you can’t make it to Friday evening’s cider-sipping glory then come and say your hellos over the weekend. I’ll be there 10am-4pm both Saturday and Sunday.

*Most artworks were about 90% done at the time, a few were yet-to-be-made.

A Japanese sushi eating robot wolf?

I’ve had a somewhat productive day.

Facepocalypse is Facebook’d for fan addings and more exposure (+1 that action to receive great appreciation! Free of charge!), Space Crash has been given the art clear for submission and my website’s coming along. In light of all this I thought the next logical step was doing a sketch!

Deep in discussion about design with Bec I thought I’d turn to her for a topic. The excerpt from our conversation is below. I thought I’d go with a minimal approach on white.

Space Crash assets

Today was mostly consumed by making art assets for Space Crash over at Rockethands. This is Jack’s game-in-a-week baby and it’ll be a free iPhone game promoting Rocketfuse. Just a few tidbits for today’s art post.

The Space Crash banner:

And an explosion!

CardboardyDustAnimate2

It’s all cardboard themed, and that’s a meteor exploding, but the effect will be applied to all space debris when it gets destroyed.

I’ll point everyone in the right direction when the game’s released.

Fujimoto – Ponyo’s father

I should plot a graph of when I’ve painted the daily sketches on this blog. I think the majority would fall between the hours of 11pm and 3am. This is no exception.

It’s hard to be creative in the morning. Mornings are for emails.

Smashing Pumpkins’ new 19 yr old drummer

A long read, but I found it quite interesting. I wonder how much of a publicity stunt it is from Corgan’s point of view, although I don’t doubt he means it when he says Bryne will push him to be a better musician. Read the rest of this entry →

Typography/layout design + Ponyo

Graphic design in a nutshell. If you work with typography and haven’t already had this stuff drilled into you by tutors/designer coworkers you’ll most likely find this article highly informative!

In completely unrelated news, I just saw Ponyo. It was overwhelmingly cute – in a pleasant way. I approve.

FACEPOCALYPSE teaser card

And here it is…

Real simple. Not really a business card, more of a marketing card. Was considering making it ultra-pseudo-underground and not having anything other than ‘FACEPOCALYPSE.com’ on the back, but I might as well reaffirm both brands at the same time. I also added my contact email on the About page, in image format.

I can’t believe how far I’ve come in the last 3 years. Or even the last year.

Apple Cider Tea Party featured in Xpress

Here’s the electronic version. Not sure if the link will hold up after next week’s issue is released, but my interview’s up there now. It’s the only place that my father’s been mentioned in promo media – I didn’t actually expect it to be written in, I was kind of concealing it from the public eye but it’s alright. Gives people some context. Read the rest of this entry →

Business card progress

I’m not sure I’m quite there yet but am pretty close to the final business card. Might shuffle around the ‘freelance digital artist…’ text. As you may notice I’ve scrapped the crest logo design.

.jpegs sure don’t agree with that pattern…
