Sushi from $2.60?!
I was in Freo with Vanilla Jilla after dropping off my entry to the aforementioned Freo Print exhibition (and for the record I did end up including emoticons) when we strolled past a sign saying “Sushi from $2.60″.
Sushi from $2.60?! What is this craziness?
Good value, apparently, so I acquired a crumbed whiting sushi roll about 12cm long for this very reasonable price. The place is called Ark Star Sushi and it’s located in the High St Mall, just off Market street (seen running horizontally in the background). The sushi wasn’t spectacular, but I certainly would’ve expected to pay more than $2.60 for what I got, making this an eatery I will most likely revisit.
If anyone’s in the market for a culinary treat in sushi I’d recommend the trendy Peko Peko’s, a franchise of 2 stores in northern suburbs that make delicious sushi with a slightly unique take on ingredients. They also have really good rice paper rolls that come with a choice of delicious dipping sauces. Miso and ginger is my personal favourite. Delicious.

There’s a good ramen place in the Freo Markets. It’s apparantly endorsed by Howard and K-Rudd (according to their advertisements). Let’s go!
I’ve only recently (like, the last two weeks) started eating sushi. I’ve been told the best sushi in Perth is from this shop in Carilion Food Court. 8 pieces for about $7.00. Pretty good, me thinks.
Actually there’s a good mid-range Japanese place called Izumi in Victoria Park. I haven’t had much of their sushi but they do teryaki chicken sushi that’s kind of minced/cut finely. Delicious. Nick and I actually had Izumi cater our exhibition with sushi platters. For quality vs price Izumi’s right up there.
Not as chic as Peko Pekos but goodtimes nonetheless.
I’d also recommend Tsunami if anyone’s in the market for high end Japanese with a French influence.
