July July July

Here it comes… June 2009 was big enough, but the ride’s going to continue into July. I kind of expected June to be my bombshell month of 09, and in a way it was. Now July’s less than an hour away and the saga continues.

July is my new spectacles. I hope they’re tinted yellow.

Chiang Mai Hilltribe

Slightly bigger version here. Being a Hale Old Boy they’ve allowed me to put 3 pieces in the upcoming Hale School Art Exhibition. This is one of the pieces I did specifically for it. It runs from 31st July-2nd August.

Space Invader street art

spacei

Just came across this article on Juxtapoz about Jonathan LeVine, the Space Invader, and being a Perth resident and artist makes it an interesting read. Although he’s more of a craft artist than a technical artist, a lot of his work seems to just be pixelated sourced images. It’s about the ~execution~ I guess, but I like his concept of invading spaces and what it reveals about graffiti laws and public facing street art. Read the rest of this entry →

You want somethin’, go get it. Period.

I just watched The Pursuit of Happyness, and didn’t realise it was a biographical movie until the end. I probably would’ve appreciated it more had I known. You know, empathised more with the character’s plight and whatnot. There’s something about having a big name actor in the starring role that lightened his character’s struggle. As if he’d soon discover his malfunctioning X-ray box had the inherent ability to summon Martin Lawrence and they’d go on a face-grinding adventure leading to money and babes in bountiful quantities.  Read the rest of this entry →

Guy starts dance party at Sasquatch festival

Brace yourself for shaky camera work. I’m pretty sure this was filmed by the director of The Bourne Ultimatum. Or maybe the filmer just didn’t have access to a tripod and decided to use the next best/closest thing; a jackhammer. Either way, I can look past that and sample its tasty apple-flavoured core of lol.

I’m especially amused by the guy that +1′s around 2:18. You’ll know it when you see it.

Banksy at Bristol

His exhibition is currently running in Bristol, with free entry and all. He sure is passionate and true to his beliefs. Pictures of some pieces exhibited can be found here.

I particularly like the stone carved “The bad artists imitate, the great artists steal.” Pablo Picasso Banksy.

Commissioned art

sboxer-japanstsmaller

I can finally show this. I did a commission based on Japan some weeks ago for a client. It was actually a present for his partner so I was waiting til it was received before publishing. There’s a slightly bigger version up at my portfolio.

Hottest 100… evar.

Jack recently posted his top 10 and I thought I’d do the same. Let the judgement commence.

After much deliberation I said screw it, and just chose ‘Welcome Home’ as my last song even though it’s a bit obscure. In no particular order (followed by ‘why’s):

Nine Inch Nails – The Great Below
Johnny Cash – Hurt
Coldplay – Fix You
Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger
Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants
Queens of the Stone Age – First It Giveth
Tool – Forty Six & 2
Jose Gonzalez – Teardrop
Muse – Knights Of Cydonia
Radical Face – Welcome Home

A fruity adventure through a familiar world

I just saw Apricot Rail play at the Velvet Lounge. Shizzam, they were awesome!

I’ve never seen them before and had no idea what to expect. I always have trouble describing musical genres but it was an immersive and relaxing, mostly instrumental experience. Just go have a listen on their myspace. Read the rest of this entry →

Sushi from $2.60?!

sushiplace

I was in Freo with Vanilla Jilla after dropping off my entry to the aforementioned Freo Print exhibition (and for the record I did end up including emoticons) when we strolled past a sign saying “Sushi from $2.60″. Read the rest of this entry →
